weird tuesday morning

so a couple weeks ago i was invited to be involved in an article about 40 something something people in chicago. there is a photoshoot for a magazine, and a breakfast downtown. i figured out that steve albini was one of the other 40 chicagoans invited, so we decided to carpool.

picked steve up this morning at 8 and drove downtown to a building overlooking daley plaza. we were some for the first people to arrive, and as others came in, i soon lost track of names. we ate fruit salad, fresh orange juice, and lox and bagels. several folks associated with steppenwolf theater and second city were there. some politicians were there. i was delighted to see my friends joe meno and ken vandermark, so steve and i had some more people to talk to. chris ware called in sick. i talked to martha lavey (artistic director of steppenwolf), with steve, for a good amount of time. jesse jackson jr was introducing himself to me for the second time, while jerry springer walked in the door behind him. john mahoney wore dirty white sneakers (ralph lauren), and carol marin and jerry springer were photographed while chatting. christie hefner. steve was asked to be the stand-in for mayor daley (no show), where he introduced himself to congressman bobby rush as "i'm the mayor of this town" during one photo.

vandermark and albini and i took off as soon as possible, and i drove them home. such nice guys, these two.

now i draw something for my morning jacket.
