tuesday, to austin

packed my clothes and took seth to TBM, where i compiled my application onto one disk, and burnt a couple copies, including hard copies, to be fedexed.

jack drove me and seth to lorna's laces, where we met up with di, dropped seth and the subaru with stephanie, and jack drove di and i to ohare.

flew to austin. also on our plane were brent from southern and jason and robin from sound opinions.

i slept a bit on the plane.

yancy picked us up, and drove us back towards her house. on the way, we saw someone drop a puppy off on the side of a busy road, so we U-turned and picked the young bull terrier mix up. very sweet dog. well-behaved and happy. he rode on my arms back to geoff & yancy's place. we bathed him and he hung out with rocketsauce and tater lu.

geoff made an insanely great dinner, four courses. chicken legs wrapped in bacon, with tomato & cottage cheese on bread, some ham pile with shredded ham on top. polenta. awesome across the board.

brent came by geoff's place to sleep on a couch. geoff and brent and i stayed up to wait for clay and morty to arrive, and watched jackass episodes back-to-back up to midnight, when i crashed. slept with a puppy wedged between di and i. slept really well.

monday

sara was already at TBM when i got there. she stacked walrus prints, i editioned them. sara and jack prepped the boxes going to FS with bill slater. we sorted out which mistakes books were going where. nathan came by to shoot photos of prints, and i spent the rest of the day writing my application and preparing the images for an award for which i had been nominated.

met di at home at 7pm for dinner. i did some dishes, sat in front of the fire, drank home-made chai, and finally went to bed around 1am. di stayed up.

sunday

did email stuff at home, then went to TBM to sit for jason's boys from 2:30-4pm. we make a cardboard box fort, drew for a little bit, and watched a bit of shrek 3. laurie geller called, and i went to pick her up at the drake. we drove north and met di at lucky platter for dinner, which fell just short of our usually cozy expectations. i drove laurie over past the bahai temple, and to our house for a bit. around 8:30, i drove laurie back to her hotel, then ran down to midway to pick up sara from her flight home for the weekend. ipod dumped all its songs on the way.

simon also went to pick sara up, so i drove them both home, then went to bed at my house, with my wife.

saturday, urbana and back

i woke around 6 and headed out in the cold, driving south to urbana. stopped for chai, and made it down by 9am. visited with chris, got the 'mistakes' books, and headed over to an old favorite, farm & fleet. i used to buy clothes there when i was in college. they have everything from horse tack to work boots, to car parts and houseplants. i bought a dog toy and some other stuff, and got back on the highway north. arrived back at TBM by 12:30.

a guy named marvin came by to pick up the light table and screens i had been offering free on craigslist.

eventually, i ran the last color on the walruses, with my dad doing take-off. they turned out well.

went home and watched disc two of 'seven samurai'. amazing film.

friday

headed out around 7:30am to get the subaru from wally's. got di into that car, now featuring new ball joints, and had wally fix the slow leak on the civic's back tire. went to the shop and never really got to printing the last color on the walruses. i editioned posters and worked on patagonia drawings.

headed home around 5, and andrew and xan came by for dinner. di made mushroom soup, we had salads and bread. sat in front of the fire until late.
