my birthday

we woke up around 6, and i shaved and bathed. diana gave me some very good presents, and we drove out to diana's folks' house, stopping to get chai on the way. nice visit with dan & marilyn. seth loves seeing them, but always worries that we're leaving him there.

two hours, and we headed to see my folks. my dad made a cake for me. my dad and i opened presents (fathers day), and we helped them move a little furniture in anticipation of my mom's foot surgery on tuesday morning. mom will be off her feet for most of the rest of the summer, so we made sure the recliner was within reach of everything.

di and i headed back home, and i mowed the lawn with our new rechargeable mower, which worked great, while di planted and weeded. i added a very satisfying load of grass clippings to our optimistic little compost pile.

around 3:30, i went back to TBM to finish the editioning, then loaded the prints into the car and headed down to the chicago theater to drop them off with the band. from there, i went to practice, which went great. stephanie brought birthday brownies which she and nathan had baked for me.

after practice, we went to our old practice space to clean out the last of our stuff from there. pain in and about the ass. jason and i loaded our cars' worth of stuff into his basement, then i went into bed with diana, feeling 36.

saturday june 14

we woke up at 6 and got ourselves moving. rode the bikes over to the farmer's market, and got a couple panniers full of honey mustard, mushrooms, baby asparagus, oak leaf lettuces, cherry tomatoes, dill, strawberries, bread, and garlic herb goat cheese. from there, we rode to the unicorn cafe, for a chai out on the sidewalk. off to whole foods for cereal, orange juice, yogurt, avocado, peaches, and bananas.

riding home, we decided to go the long way, and ended up looping through all of northwestern's campus, sitting for a while on the lakefront landfill. the sun was bright and the day was perfect. we came back west along lincoln ave, and put the groceries away at home.

seth, diana and i drove over to TBM, so di could print and i could take a stab at finishing editioning the swell season prints. i stepped out to run to fedex to pick up our new lawnmower, shipped in. i didn't quite finish the swell season prints, but it was a good day. we went home, and diana and i rode out to the lake front on our fixed-gear bikes to watch the thunderstorms roll menacingly across the northern sky, out into the lake.

the week at the bird machine

this week was a fast one. we ran three different runs of 600 posters each of swell season prints. sara and patrick kicked ass, though patrick took off for bonnarro on wednesday. froilan suggested i hire his friend lisa for thursday, to do take-off, and she did great. friday was spent curating and editioning, though i didn't finish. wednesday night was dianogah practice, and we're feeling ready for the tour. nothing remarkable for the week, just plain old productivity.
